Help removing steering rag joint

Post by riozilla »

I’m having a hard time removing my old steering rag joint.

I removed the complete lower steering shaft, and the two nuts attached to the rag joint. But now I still can’t remove the rag joint, despite prying it a bit and letting it soak in penetrant. I don’t want to damage the steering pump by forcing it too much unless that’s what I really need to do.

Is there another bolt that I am missing that is still holding it in? It looks like the middle piece in the photos I took is holding it in, but I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be unscrewed or if it’s just rusted in place.

Any tips?

Thank you,

Rio

There is another bolt that you need to remove, it might be hard to see. It is on the side of steering box, here is a pic you can see where it goes

It might be a 12 point head and you need to take it out, because it goes in a groove on a steering shaft
