EGR fun

Post by dodgerammit »

Breaking in the rebuilt 360. I am having issues getting the EGR to function correctly.

Engine is rocking an Edelbrock performer egr intake and a summit 4bbl.

1st issue was vacuum present at ported source at idle.
Got that fixed by lowering curb idle and bumping timing.

Now no vacuum at idle on ported source. However, hooking egr causes stumbling just off idle, and really rears it's ugly head at decel, sometimes killing the engine out.

I need a vacuum delay valve.
Problem is, no place has those items in stock. They are not available to order. :banghead:

I'm wondering if they'd even alleviate the decel issue. They'd have to shut off the vacuum quick.

What was used on the 90-91 system with the transducer would be sweet.
Even if I could find used, I'm not even sure if the 90-91 setup would fit the egr port on the edelbrock intake. The older version of egr valve does.

Thoughts?

Edit*

Need to add, I do have the vacuum line routed through a CTO switch for warm temp only operation.

When I needed vacuum delay valves for air cleaner doors to function properly, I looked everywhere and couldn’t find new ones. So I went to local picknpull and grabbed a dozen of them off all the old cars they had. Some of them were leaking, but most was ok. So for vacuum delay I think junkyard is your best option

You and I are on the same wave length. I already picked up a Mityvac tool for the toolbox in anticipation of doing just that. :-bd

My egr is broken on my 90. I just plugged both vacuum lines with screws. Engine runs great without it. Like it wasnt even there
