I'm chasing an annoying shake in my steering wheel above 70MPH.
Things I have done to trouble shoot:
1. Brand new tires on all 4 wheels
2. balanced on install
3. balance checked by a different shop
4. disassembled both front hubs and inspected
5. replaced both front axle Ujoints
6. cleaned a greased front hubs with new seals
7. inspected and repacked front wheel bearings
8. new ball joints
9. replaced tie rod and drag link assembly
10. front end alignment.
I replaced mine with a cheap Crown one and had vibrations in my steering that were annoying at speed. I replaced that bearing with a ultra high quality lower steering column bearing from Wolff Engineering and it fixed it. Link below.
Caveat, I also replaced my steering shaft with a Borgeson U-Joint one to eliminate the steering shaft rag joint.
Definitely sounds like a wheel/tire issue, find a shop that has a road - force balancer basically checks runout of the tires. It's a pain sometimes chasing balance issues at higher speeds. Some tire brands are known for it, like bfg all terrains. The balancer will zero out but still have a shimmy at high speeds. Could also be a bent wheel.
Good resource for the bearing we need More of these so we can have decent quality parts to reference.
