Qhat size socket or wrench does the castle nut on the upper ball joint take

Post by candymancan »

I got everything off to replace my ball joints... but ive pulled every socket and wrench i have.. and short of a pipe adjustable wrench that doesnt have th3 leverage to bust this free i cant find a socket big enough.

Ite bigger than 1 1/4. And 1 3/16th..

Soo. How big is this so i dont make multiple trips to the store to try different sockets..

I've never bothered with a pickle fork. Two hammers tapping together on each side of the yoke will get it. Got to hit exactly together, you can tell by the sound and rebound when they do. Never had it fail yet and usually works pretty quick.

I didnt need help getting the knuckle off.. i just bash em.. just couldnt figure out th3 bolt size.

I got it all off.. replaced the spindle seals and u joint on the axle shaft and those seals. And both ball joints.

What is the torque spec for the 6 nuts for the spindle ? Or do i just make it (tight)

I have a 79 JEEP TSM and it doesn't show a torque spec for the 6 spindle nuts.

Okay just made it gud and tight... everything ie back tigether now. Cept the brakes.. but the main stuff.. uhg this kicked my butt.. its hot today sunny.. and my knees hurt from doing thie on the pavement lol.

I figured out why my axle shaft was pulling in and out so much too. My friend did the wheel bearings for me when i was aick. I supervised though.. and she put the c clip on the first groove on the axle shaft allowing it to move in and out. I put it on the 2nd groove. Man those u joint needle bearings were bad... dry as dist and broken inside

From what I could find, it is 65ft lbs for the bolts that hold the spindle to the knuckle.
