Transfer case and downshift wire cut

Post by toxicwaste29 »

I was under my new to me 79 j20 and there is an orange wire going to the tail shaft of the transfer case that was cut along with the yellow TH400 downshift wire. Any specific reasons they may have been cut before I reinstall them?

I cannot think of any reason the kickdown would be disabled, unless maybe it had a full manual valve body. But that would be a weird choice for a Jeep. Maybe the transmission was rebuilt and it never got hooked back up?

The wire going to the transfercase is the e-drive switch. It will light up the e-drive light in the cluster if its hooked up.

Two parts to it. The vacuum modulator and the kickdown switch.

The vacuum modulator is used to let the transmission know shift points.

The Kickdown switch is electric and there is a switch that is activated by the throttle position.

They were definitely cut as its a clear cut not a tear in the wires for both.
I wasnt sure if they were somehow tied in together. Ill hook them up and see what happens. Thanks
