1981 Wagoneer Limited Wood Trim

Post by Fbnella »

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement for this wood on my 81 limited? My grandfather bought it new in Aug of 1980, and I bought it from the estate about 21 years ago. I've never seen wood trim like this, have any of you?

The brown below is paint. The side trim is some aftermarket trim applied by the previous owner. Not factory equipment.

I have seen a display of all kinds of adhesive trims strips like this at an auto paint store. I asked about them and the counter guy said the display was old and the line has been discontinued. Possible you can search and find a source. Not something I would go out of my way to preserve, if it were my Jeep.

Apparently "Limited" started in 1978. From the Wikipedia page, a "Limited" would have had full side wood trim, which on this vehicle is now gone or was never there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep_Wagoneer_(SJ) Possibly the PO applied the "Limited" badges along with the aftermarket adhesive trim strips.

You can make faux wood grain with paint and basic tools. YouTube has several videos on how to do it. It’s easy and fun.

3m dinoc was used for the wood panels (not the moulding) on Jeeps. It’s still used for wood details on new buildings. Had an architect friend send me some samples and holy cow! When I get around to paint I am for sure going to use some of the new stuff, looks better IMO. Some actually have textured woodgrain and it’s made for outdoor applications.

Do a googler for 3m dinoc. So many options, some look close to stock. You could cut it yourself.
