Wheel and Tire Size?

Post by spjohnson1031 »

Hello all,

Well, I really hate to be "that guy" asking "will it fit?" but I've found too much competing information out there to trust it....

I have a bone stock 1970 Wagoneer with 4 different size wheels currently. That being said, I'm looking to bolt up the following setup...

Wheels
-15" wheel, 6 in. wide, 15x5.5 pattern, 3.75" backspacing (https://www.jegs.com/i/Wheel-Vintiques/ ... 4/10002/-1)

Tires:
235/75R15

Will this setup rub in any of the corners? I'm not really willing to trim but would like a slightly larger tire than factory. Bonus points for anyone with pictures of the same/similar stock setups.

Thanks in advance to all!
~Scott

You’re in luck, I have had two different wheel setups on my 70.

First is 15”x8” 3.75” backspace wrapped in 30”x10.50” BFG K02. Stock height, no trimming and no rubbing

Second is 17”x8 4.5” backspace wrapped in 35”x12.50” BFG K02. 4” lift, widetrack axle swap, and a lot of metal trimming. But does not rub.

235's should not rub at all. 6" wide wheels are a bit on the narrow side for those tires. But I ran 235's on 15x8" wheels on my Cherokee when it was bone stock ('75 narrow trac) and it wasn't even close to rubbing.

Thanks to you both! Stuka, I don't want to go 15"x8", but I think I'd be okay going 15"x7". Would that be a better choice for a 235/75R15? Thanks In advance!

I would guess that the center hole of those wheels won't fit over your front hubs.

I am running something like this https://www.summitracing.com/parts/brw-997575537 on my CJ-6. This has a 4.25" center bore that clears the front hubs and seats properly on the axle flange at the rear. Caveat emptor. I'm sure that your 5-lug hubs will require that large a center hole. Measure existing wheels and confirm with seller.

Didn't we cover this before?

If you go to TrieRack.com and look up your tires it will show you the acceptable wheel widths. For a KO2 it's 6-7".

JMO - you should look for factory 6" wheels if you want that type of wheel. I'm sure we covered this.

Im warning you now. Regardless of what tire you install, you'll want bigger. So, just make the commitment and start with 37's :D
