Park brake cables, mixing and matching

Post by autocomman »

So on my 72 the parking brake pedal is there.....and nothing else. The rear has been converted to disc brakes. However they didn't use calipers that have parking brakes, so I will be fixing that. But then I need to add all the parking brake cables. And I know there's multiple versions and lengths as they updated the parking brake cables as the vehicle got newer. My question is, can I order all of the bits for the late Grand wagoneer, the '80s one. Considering I have no cables at all, I don't see why there would be any issue converting the whole system to the newer style cable setup. Thoughts comment suggestions?

I know I would have to get the connectors to go from the rear cables to the intermediate cable, I know those are GM parts. I also know I would need the hook and the equalizer brackets, also GM parts. I'm hoping that if I get everything for Grand wagoneer, the lengths will be close enough that I won't have any issues.

There is a parts book for '61-73 J-series at the Tom Collins site, as well as for the '80s era. https://oljeep.com/edge_parts_man.html

Look at the illustrations for what you want, and search for the Jeep part numbers online. You can determine what's available. Or find a parts car to take the parts you need from.
