Need help!

Post by ScottsMojo »

So as Schwag sits at the moment we are rolling on 35's on 15x8 chrome mods. Wheels look like crap, chrome is peeling and rusting. Time to replace.

In my shop I have the original 5 slots and caps which I would REALLY like to run but I don't know if I will like the stance as they are an inch narrower and have more back spacing (or less front) than the current wheel.

Is anybody currently running big tires on stock mags on NT axles?

You will most likely rub your springs in back. Even with 8" wide wheels on my old cherokee I was only about 3/4" away from the springs running 12.50 wide tires. With the 5 slots (Used to have some) they do have more back spacing, and they are only 7" wide as you state, they would either rub, or be very close.

There are 15x8 slot wheels out there, they are just kind of rare. There are also 15x10 slots. I would love a set of the 15x8's to run on my J10, as I love the look of them.

The 15x8 that the GE's came with worked out pretty good, but I didn't have 12.5" rubber, only 10.5". No rubbing with those.

I have run factory aluminum wheels with 31x10.5 and 32x11.5. 32s will bulge a bit and definitely rub on the front springs at full turn. 31s are best for fit and wear. I have seen 33x12.5 on them and they balloon out on the 7" wheels.

Grant plans to run 33x10.50/15's on the stock Turbine Wheels on his Waggy after he gets the spring over kit put on. He likes the pizza cutter look. Should look pretty nice I think.

I think I will mount one wheel up this weekend and do a fit check, time permitting. The backspacing on the stock wheel appears to be the same as the chrome mod thats currently on it, and the extra inch of width is to the outside of the wheel. I will post up a photo or two and let y'all see what it looks like.

If you run rims that are too narrow, the center of the tread will wear out first.

Can happen, thats why I am going to mount up a tire on a wheel and check it out. The tires on 8" rims have worn exceptionally well. I will see what they look like on the stockers before making a final decision.
