3-4 inch lift questions

Post by signet2000 »

I bought a 3- 4 inch lift if a guy that had it on a wagoneer. I'm planning to put it on my fsj cherokee.

Mechanic say I need 2" shakel extension s for rear leafs tk make them fit. Found them Bj's, but says extension will lower(inverted) the leafs (making every uneven plane).

Morris doesn't say this. They say their CJ shakes work. They didn't say anything about "lowering"

Lift kit isn't marked with branding.

Mechanic is jeep specific place, but primarily works on late models.

I need suggestions.
Thanks, Ted

What years are the wagoneer and CHerokee?

Normally a spring lift doesn't require new shackles to work.

As long as the springs are actually from a full size jeep, sometimes you have to compress/de-arch the rear springs a bit to get them to bolt up to the rear shackles. I’m sure there’s a few threads in on here on how to do that.

Definetaly don’t put on longer shackles.

This is a common issue. What most of us do is put a block of wood above the rear spring eye (between the spring and the body), and put a jack under the leaf to compress it some, which makes it longer. then you can get the bolt in.

As I recall BJ's instructions even mention having to do this.

However, you do NOT want longer shackles in back, they WILL lower the vehicle. Plus, there is zero need for them.

BTW, I moved this topic to the Modified FSJ Tech area, as its a tech question and not a build thread.

Yep, block of wood and ratchet straps are what I used to flatten my springs for install. Used existing shackles in the rear, but opted for the longer versions from BJ's for the front to level out the rake. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have just bought new rear shackles or R&R'd the bushings in the ones I have.

Yea the rear springs are a pain to get on the shackle. Its easier to put it in the shackle end first. Then you gatta jack the axle up ALLL the way until it flattens the spring, and then you gatta use a pry bar and pry on the eye to get it to line up to the hole on the frame mount. Its annoying, but yea.

I dont mess with the shackle end last its easier to do the frame side last
