QT to NP241c question

Post by dissinnick »

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to search this question properly.

When going from a full time <1979 Quadratrac to NP241c, do I need to convert front d44 to locking hubs?

If so why? (For education purposes)

You don't have too, thats optional. The GM trucks that used the 241c never had locking hubs. You just save wear and tear on the front end when driving on the HWY, and potentially fewer drive line vibrations. Some claim better fuel economy, but nothing that is measurable.

However, putting in a 241c is NOT a bolt in operation. Your TH400 has a unique output for the QT. That output has to be changed in order to install any NP transfer case.

Plus, you have the Passenger side offset rear axle and the 241C is center rear out put. IMO, get a Later parts Wagoneer ['80-90] and swap the drive train over to the newer/ more modern system.

80+ is driver drop front axle. And it would require changing out the fuel tank too. Thats a ton of work.
