4.8 Vortec Fuel Pump/Tank HELP Please

Post by ShagginWaggin »

I've got a 2008 4.8L LY2 4L60E swap going on right now and need help with the fuel tank/pump. I want to stick with returnless pump used on the modern 2006+ engines. I need help picking a BAFFLED tank to go where the spare tire is on my 89 Grand Wagoneer. I've looked on IFSJA and here and can't find the info I'm looking for. What tanks have you guys used in the spare tire area that have baffles and can use a newer returnless GMC/Chevy fuel pump? I'm just lost on this problem and don't want to spend $1000 on an aero tank. Thanks for the help!!!

I had looked for the same thing but from what I found, from others posts, is you don't have to have a baffled tank. The pump housing will hold a small amount of fuel around it, giving it the baffle effect. I ended up going with the same tank as most everyone else, a '92 to '02 Chevy S10 2 door tank.

Look on page 3 of my build.

I used the early 90's blazer ~20 gallon tank and a in tank pump. I have a regulator on the firewall but you can use the corvette (2000ish) filter with a built in regulator and tank return (eg. one line to the engine).
WIX Part # 33737

As stated above they don't have baffles but there is a "tray" that holds fuel in the bottom of the tank.

So basically what you guys are saying is, I could use the stock GMC Sierra fuel pump with the built in "baffle"(which I assume is that plastic bucket at the bottom of the unit) and the built in fuel regulator, pump, sending unit, etc. And just find a tank that fits that fuel pump unit. I was reading about how these new pumps have a baffle built in. So if this sounds like it would work, I'm going to start searching for a tank to fit my fuel pump and not worry about the baffles so much. Thanks for the help!

Look at page 6 of this post

Has a pic of the pump/sender assembly. Several have used it on LS swaps.

The hard part with using a tank other than the S10 Blazer tank is how far they hang down below the frame. I had found a 30 gal tank from a tahoe? but when I measured under my Wag it was going to hang lower than I wanted. If you aren't going to be doing any rough trails where clearance is an issue, then I would go with the 30gal.

Hello. this is my issue old fuel pump went out. So I dropped the tank installed a new pump cycled the key and heard the pump prime itself. took the line off the fuel filter on the frame to start bleeding it and nothing when cranking over. No pressure at the rail at all. Could there be something that I missed when installing the new one or something that cause the old one to go out? It is a 2003 4.8l
