Well, one hinge was bad (71 j4000), so I snagged one off a Super Wagoneer door (don’t judge me).

Lol, I hate aligning doors. Between the three bolts per hinge holding it onto the door, and the three bolts per hinge holding it onto the body, it’s a PITA.

While I cleaned up the hinges and the innards of the door, I left the marks on the door jamb on the frame itself so when I lined up the hinges, it was probably in the factory spot- that helped me for sure.

I did have to pull the door out/back at the 6 hinge-to-door bolts so it wouldn’t cut a groove into the striker plate when I closed the door- there’s no way to get that striker plate adjusted on the m715; too many layers of paint.

The hinge bolts themselves came out pretty easy.

My issue is the 6 bolts inside the door jam that arent accessible unless the door is open. Who engineered such a stupid setup?

Edit:

I’m waiting on some iron to finalize my cab removal set up on the FC170, so while I’m warring, I’m into day 6 of body work on the M715. After final sanding tomorrow AM, I should be able to get it all under a coat of black Epoxy primer.

I have three gauges working today: new SW speedo, stock oil and temp gauges. Two gauges to go. Whew.

Don’t know if I ever posted up on my truck bed trailer, but it sold this evening to a serious jeeper whose bone yard was featured on an episode of a motortrend show:

He’s expanding to create a mobile auto repair business, and that’s what he’s planning to use the trailer for. Sad to see it go, but I don’t need it anymore and it will be in good hands.

The long haul down into my Winter plans was elevated to the next level today.

I see these type of stands used in quite a few hot rod shops, but I used 2x6 construction rather than 2x4’s.

30” of clearance between the ground and bottom edge of the frame rails should allow me to pull out the old I6 from underneath (weirdly suggested by the factory TSM!?) and put in the 401. I’m certain this set up is not authorized by Jeep, nor what they had in mind when they wrote the book, but I’m always on a budget.

Not too sure how all this will all work out, but the FC is wedged under my overhead hoist, so fabricating bars to chain up the motors will be necessary- through the cab doors. Prepare the pucker factor meter to redline.

It’s working out so far. I am a bit skittish being under it, but it usually pretty good to be cautious.

Could put some diagonal braces front to back and side to side on the rear if you're worried. The footprint of those are prolly bigger than commercial stands.

That’s a good idea- I’ll have to work that out.

I had my panel delivery Waggie fall on me years ago and I’m still skittish under a jeep!

Thanks! I agree on the bigger tires, too. I love driving that thing, I wish I would’ve bought one sooner. A convertible truck!?

I was at Home Depot the other day and this guy kept staring as I was loading up my stuff. As he takes the long way to put his cart away, he stopped and said, “That’s the original Jeep truck, isn’t it?” I just laughed and said yeah. Then he says, they’re a lot smaller now. We both chuckled on that one.

I can understand your squeamishness.

Maybe, instead of diagonals, rip a sheet of plywood to the height of the stands. Where thy overlap on the sides, assuming the wheelbase is greater than 8 feet, screw them to a 2x6 or even bolt them together.

Why not put dawls/pins in the blocks so that they lock together?

I have 3” decking screws (two per side) through the wood already holding it all together.

So far I’ve been able to vacuum the webs, dirt, grime and chunks of baked grease and rusty paint flakes off of the undercarriage and the stands have held up well

All the bolts have been loosened, too. I’m taking this one slow and steady.

We’re pulling the engine of the FC170 this week.

Although I have a new wiring harness, old habits die hard: labeling the wires and lines.

The throw out bearing on the m715 imploded on a drive yesterday. I had to limp it home on the backroads. This could get messy. The SM465 never came mated to the 396, I wonder if the PO, or whoever mated them together used the wrong TO bearing. Time will tell. My vacation just started to feel like work! ImageImage

Edit:

The old engine is out, the th400 is at the shop for a rebuild, and the Dana 20 is ready. First, I have to clean and prep the frame and inside of the dog house.
