Looks good! I wish I had access to a shop like I used to... but I guess I'm feeling pretty blessed just to have a garage. :D

Check out your under hood wiring too. I pulled the whole harness out and was able to delete a pretty good pile of wire there too. I re-purposed a few wires as well. If I had more time and patience I would have picked a good selection of weather pack connectors from the junkyard (cheaper than new) and repinned them for my wiring connections from the 5.3 harness to the Jeep stuff. Would make it easier for future maintenance etc. I chose to splice most everything with weather proof heat shrink splices that will work well, but won't allow me to just unplug and remove everything if I need to get in there later. Don't shrink wrap or split loom until everything is done and you've test driven a few times to make sure everything works right. I made this mistake and had to chase down 2 mislabeled wires after the fact which added to my work load. Easy fix but time consuming as hell to unwrap everything, fix it, them re-bundle it all. Should have just bundled every thing with masking tape every 6 inches or so until I was sure everything was right and then did the finishing work.

Got some time to work on truck today. Got the fuel lines installed, still need to install clamps and clean things up a bit.

Wish I would have bought a different pump, one that can accept AN push fittings. Kind of hard to see in picture but the pump has barb fittings and I had to run high pressure rubber fuel line with clamps between the pump and regulator/filter. Not thrilled with it but it will work.

Won't be long before you crank it. That's the exciting part. :fsj:

I'm using mostly barb fittings. Not the prettiest but they work and they're cheaper.

Looking to get my power steering lines together.

If I did my research correctly the thread size on the pump is 16mm. Are they NPT?

Are there different sizes for the threads on the steering box? Or did they remain the same throughout the years? What is the thread size?

Has anyone used AN SS braided hose for power steering lined or something other than a pressed hydraulic type of hose and fitting? Just looking for options.

I have used the field fittings with great success. Can do it yourself and they are reusable.
I used them recently on my cummins build and going to use them on my current build.

Used the 100R5 fittings.

Nice work Matt. I need to back up a page and ask you about the fuel sender. I assume you just drilled it and taped it for a return fitting? Also, did you have to trim the senders length? I see its the one listed for the 33 gallon tank, notice MTS doesn't list one for the 25 gallon tank. Any chance you have a photo of the sender after you modified it? I actually have an 86 J10 so I may need to modify one a bit more.

Thanks Jeff, with the Holidays over now I need to get this thing running.

You are absolutely right about modifyig the sending unit. I drilled a return hole on the Ford unit and either soldered or welded a port from the old jeep sending unit to complete the return line on the Ford unit. And yes I had to trim the Ford sending unit because like you said they don't make one to fit the 25 gallon tank. I actually called The company to ask about it and was told they only sell the 33 gallon sending unit because it is easy to trim down to fit the 25 gallon tank.

Let me look through my pictures I can't remember if I got a picture of the modified sending unit. I'll let you know.

Amazing how time flies. It is January and I still don't have this thing running. I was able to work on truck the last two days by finishing up some little but important things:

1. Finished fuel line install
2. Trans coolant lines
3. New idler pulley
4. Serpentine belt
5. Upper radiator hose, still need lower hose parts store was out of stock
6. Installed bowtie overdrive tv cable and bracket

I'm pretty happy with the quality of work with the bowtie overdrive cable and bracket. Fit like a glove, here are a couple of pics:

Next step is to finish my wire harness and get it installed.

It is very close I can almost hear it fire up.

Nice work and thanks for the detailed writeup. Can you post some pics of the clearance between the front driveshaft and the pan of the 700r4? Advance Adapters says you need to swap the double cardan joint to a U-joint but I was curious if you could shave a bit of the corner of the pan instead.

Thank you. I wouldn't shave it, if I remember correctly I don't even think that would work and sorry but I don't have a picture of that. The front driveshaft is on my to do list, I tried flipping it but the u-bolts are not the same between the differential yoke and the QT yoke. Either I am going to buy a new yoke or get a new driveshaft.

I spent today cleaning the engine bay of unnecessary wiring and parts as well as started to install my wiring harness. By no means quick work I finished the day with that "I got nothing done today" feeling. Oh well next weekend I hope to make a big dent.

It has been awhile since I have been able to work on the J10. Luckily I will be able to work on it again next weekend both Sat and Sun.
