Rear tire carrier with factory 3 piece bumper

Post by Cataldo »

What re the options for a rear swing tire carrier that do not replace the factory chrome 3 piece bumper and do not interfere with using one's tow hitch?
The Valley Tire carrier looks good, needs some additional fab work (33x10.5 Spare on factory Kidney Bean Mags). I have not looked into them too much, but the fear of cracking the body is significant.

I like the fabbed swing out tire carriers, but am not the biggest fan of the associated bumpers, Anyone combine the two? Maybe have the pivot point mount below the rear bumper like a hitch receiver or even trough the chrome bumper.

My valley carrier is doing fine. I did have to reinforce the upper mounting area to the body but not because of poor design of carrier. The problem was that if you forget to latch the carrier and then take off you have the full weight of tire and gas can hyperextending the mounts which is not good. Out side of that I have carried a 32x12.5-15 with no problems.

Good to know. I think that the Valley Tire mount is the best bet, a quick ebay search says that it does not exist.. So I'll have to keep a vigilant look out for one.
