so how rough and tough are rough country leaf springs?

Post by AwesomeJ10 »

I scored a set of 3" rough country front springs model number 8004 from Nikkormat to use on the front of the Honcho. These are much thicker and stiffer than the rancho RS44044's

hopefully they won't bend/break like the ranchos...

They are stiff, but I do not think they will be any less prone to bending. You either need military wrap springs, or these things called coils :P

Have you considered Chevy springs. Much thicker built for heavier truck. Tuff Country makes a good 2.5 and Im running ProComp 6" springs under/axle on my J20.

Aren't the ranchos the one on the bottom? Different leaf count and military wrap.

curious if you've ever had to warranty claim the ranchos and how painful the process is

The rancho is the one on top. I don't know if Blake has ever tried to warranty them, but he bends the rancho's all the time. Honestly I think it's because he beats his Honcho truggy like it owes him money more than a shortcoming of the springs. He beats his truck so hard he got invited to Peterson's Ultimate Adventure back in 2011. He bent or broke a spring last year in Ouray, and he broke them the year before that catching air in a tough trucks race.

ya, the rancho is on top. I actually did call up Jegs once and asked them if they would warranty one of the ranchos that was less than 6 months old. They asked what I was doing with it and I replied - I was 'wheeling. They denied my claim, but they did say they would sell me one 'at cost' which ended up being like 10 bucks cheaper.

Bending/breaking these springs lead me to the whole shackle reverse conversion which has screwed me even worse: STILL bent two springs on Carnage Canyon a while back and I ended up with to much caster which has broken my new long travel front driveshaft.

I need coilovers...

Don't we all!

Should have told them that you parked it on a curb at the mall... they would have warrantied it then!

So I finally got around to installing those Rough Country springs. Man they are a lot stiffer than the ranchos. I think I will like them.

Running Indy/Patriot this weekend so we will see how well they hold up...

I want those springs too.

Update: I wasn't able to run indy/patriot because I had broken front ring/pinion.

But I have 'wheeled on the rough country springs for several trips. I really like them! They are much stiffer and ride much nicer. Plenty of flex too.
