Leaf springs lift kit

Post by Mudders »

Can anyone help with what leaf springs I might have? The Jeep is a fullsize 1980 Cherokee and I ordered a Rough country 3" lift. Complete lift all new leaf springs! First off the front leaf springs were a treat because the u bolts were wrong size. And now the rear leafs are the wrong size ! And Rough Country says there a exact fit. Called BDS and they say there right also. Tried to call Skyjacker but they didn't want to help. The center pin isn't even close. Here's a couple photos for comparison ImageImageImage

Pretty much every person here that gets a rough country lift gets the kit with the blocks in the back. But it certainly seems like those leaves are too long.

Yes they offer them but I wouldn't recommend them.

I think they sent you the wrong springs. Looking around I can see people that have that kit installed. Is the part number painted on the rear springs? And does it match up with what they should be?

I called and Rough Country couldn't help me. They said I had something odd. They sent a call tag and gave me a 2" block kit. This Cherokee was a government vehicle think that has anything to do with it?

What's the distance between the front mounting hole and the shackle mounting hole on your frame? I can't help you since my spring mounts have been changed but someone will be able to tell you if you have something odd.

If that dimension's correct then RC's giving you the runaround.

That should not make a difference. If you measure from the front eye to the rear eye, whats is your measurement? They should be roughly 57" long (maybe a touch longer if they are sagged down. And be 26" from the front eye to the center pin, and 31" from the centering pin to the rear eye.

The pic shows the new ones are off quite a bit on length.

The frame measurement will give him ammo show RC they sent him the wrong springs or they are selling a bad part.

I got the all springs kit and while the fronts were pretty straight forward, I had to work at the rears quite a bit. I had to use a pry bar with the axle and leaf to flex it enough to get the bolts through. It REALLY sucked. Then I had to flex the heck out of the rears to get them to not ride like crap. Those probably are the correct springs that Rough Country sends, they are just really flattened out. I'll grab the numbers off my springs when I get home though if that will help.

You had to flatten them a little since they were "too short" when unloaded. OP's are too long unloaded and will only get longer.

No I had to arch them because they were too long and had flattened out since manufacture.

I don't get it. If you had to arch them to get them in wouldn't that mean the shackle was all the way back so when you hit a bump it would have nowhere to go?
