Anyone use Rancho Springs?

Hey Guys,

I've been looking for a spring set that only nets me ~2" of lift and ran across these Rancho springs:

Do you know if the quality is any good on these? Any idea of how the compare to BJ's 2" spring? They're $75 cheaper, per spring, than Alcans so it has me wondering...

I just installed a slightly used pair last Saturday.
They had been street driven and pulled from a rig that was rear ended and totaled by the ins company.
I got about 1.5" over my pretty flat stock springs.

Blake runs them and breaks them but he does wheel very hard.
I have known other FSJ folk that have run them with no issues.

I'm running them on my Cherokee project and new they net about 3". I have it with my FSSR that puts it 5" over OEM and running 33x10 BFGs...

I ran a pair for 5 years and bent main leaves twice without ever breaking one. Then i limited the shackle so that it wouldnt bend the mains anymore. Just bought a new set i liked them so much. Flex pics with the new set below.

I've broken 3 front springs and bent 2 more on the front of the Honcho in 5 years. I've also broken one GM 63" in the rear and compressed two more.

All SOA on a D60 and 42's being 'wheeled hard.

First broken spring was a BJ's offroad 2". Those lasted the longest. (BJ's now has a different spring vendor..)

second and third springs to break was the Rancho RS44044 like the OP listed. I'm now running on two bent RS44044 front springs and I need to buy two more.

I'm running my front springs 'reversed' so that I get that extra 2" of extended wheelbase and I think that is incorrect and causing much of my issue.

I need to pony up the $$$ (and spend lots of time shipping/returning mistakes) from Alcan spring. I know Jerry Cockran is running Alcan's SOA on a D60 and 42" pitbull and NOT breaking/bending his springs.


But in the end, if you are running SUA on a stock FSJ not being 'wheeled hard, then I bet those Rancho springs will last a loooong time.

Thanks for the pics, J20Brett! It looks like the Ranchos are flexing pretty well for you! Blake: You named the two options I'm looking at right now. 1: Get Ranchos and save a little money. 2: Get Alcans and never have to mess with my springs again. I've got Alcans on my Tacoma and (even though it's not as built as a lot of your rigs on here) my springs have been totally solid for 7 years of decently hard wheeling. That being said, the waggy is never going to be a rock crawler... it's just too nice. I just want to be able to get off the beaten path when curiosity gets the best of me.

So... I know that the 44044 are the front springs. Does Rancho offer a matching back spring for the Grand Wagoneer?


EDIT: I almost forgot to ask... how's the ride quality of the Ranchos? (I know that Alcans tend to ride nice and soft)

I think the RS44044 springs are a little soft up front. But then again, I'm SOA and have them reversed.

I would like to find a much stiffer front spring to fit an FSJ...

Stiffness wise, its hard to tell on mine since i am running a slider box instead of a shackle up front. But, my springs are new and not broken in so they are a bit stiff still. My old ones seemed just right with bilstein 5100 shocks.

Does Rancho make rear springs for FSJs? What are you guys running?

No, i am running a factory replacement rear spring from somewhere, cant remember where.

For sure they are not Alcan's, but for the price I think they are a decent spring.

Thanks for the info and picture, Tad! It looks like these springs are a good bang for your buck... did they flex pretty well, in your opinion?

I think they flexed very well.
Keep in mind the ones I installed are slightly used (about 6K miles he said) so I would consider them broken in.
They may be slightly stiffer new.

Do you guys have any suggestions for a rear spring pack to match the 44044? (I keep wondering if there is another Rancho spring that's not specifically made for the back of a wagoneer but has the same dimensions...)
