After many years wheeling Toyota's I finally own a Jeep.

I just picked up this Waggy and really don't know what year it is. Any help would be appreciated. Vin starts with 1414cs

Looks like a nice example, it's a 67-68 "custom" wagoneer
Can you provide the serial number or minus the last digit if you don't want to provide the whole number ?

There are a bit of a rare bird. They were kind of a continuation of the 'super wagoneer' which basically was the first luxury SUV. If you search the board for 1414 you will get a lot more info.

Also, don't worry about sounding 'dumb' or asking 'stupid' questions. The folks here don't jump all over people for asking questions.

The guy I got it from was a straight up hoarder.. The bus was his "Burning Man" party rig. He also had a 74-5 Power Wagon that I think my brother is buying.
I don't plan to do much to the Wagoneer. I already have a dedicated trail rig. Just a mild lift and 31's. The rear corners are pretty beat up and there's rust in the quarters. Otherwise pretty straight.

It's a 1967 VIN, 2nd semester
To narrow down the production date , you can look at a little alu plate on the alternator bracket : we can decode the number on this little plate, the decoding will provide the engine build date

I think that Will e understood "custom special" 1414X which is indeed a rare bird
It's actually "only" a "custom" 1414C : it's the trim above the standard wagoneer with more chrome and a different upholstery

I didn’t keep the Wagoneer. Sold it to a coworker and focused on finishing the major work on my Toyota crawler. Now I stumbled across this and couldn’t pass it up. 70 J3000 camper special. Should be fun.

I plan to leave it pretty much as it is. Need some floor rot repair and interior. Strong Buick 350 and th400. Only major change coming will be to replace the split rims and put some decent tires on it. Love the yellow. Are there paint codes floating out in the interwebs somewhere?

I found a set of GM axles front and rear. I am thinking of converting the front to 8 lug. However am I crazy for thinking about just installing both axles and leaving them 6 lug? I won't be towing. Won't be doing any serious wheeling. Got a Toyota crawler for that.

Am I nuts?

I was all prepped to go 8 lug on my 70 j2000, I had all of the parts and for end goals be simpler. My vanity won out. I couldn’t find wheels that were somewhat different but were in the “could have come that way” category that I liked. So it is staying 5x5.5, but my ocd won’t let me build a semi float axle. So a full float 5 lug axle is in the works.

which goes against all advice I’ve ever given any one about building full float axles, being quite the hypocrite of my own advice…..
