1966 J3000 Bed Cap

Post by Brly »

I've been keeping my eye out for a cap for the last few years. Not consistently looking, but every once in a while I'd dig through the classifieds and see what I could find. A couple years ago I saw one listed for a J20. Couldn't get any pictures and it sounded pretty rough from the description so I passed.
This one popped up a few weeks ago. The measurements were all correct so I went for it. Had to drive 6 hours round trip for it, but that's ok. Fits the box perfectly, although the height is a little short and the angle at the front of the cap doesn't quite match the angle of the cab. I'm satisfied though, caps that fit these trucks are really hard to come by. Windows are all intact including screens and the cranks work fine. No holes or other bad damage. I have a new gasket on the way and was able to find the vinyl trim to replace the faded and broken originals. Even found the plastic screw cover material that goes around the windows and rear door, should have everything by the end of the week. Overall I'm happy with it. The condition and style matches the truck pretty well.

That is a niiiiice truck! That canopy fits good. I love those old ones! Had a '65 Wagoneer years ago, very basic and simple.

Thanks Phil. It's a lot of fun. There's something to be said about the basic and simple aspect. So far I've been able to find the parts I need, from there its just a matter of time to get it done.
Next big step will be the interior. Want to get a better carb on it too.
