Hello from Indiana

Post by slowstart »

Hello everyone, I just got my first jeep and will be starting to do some work on it. Thought it my be a good idea to joint a site for some future help. This will be my first 4X4 project. Have always been in to cars. What I got is a 1981-1982 Jeep Cherokee with a 6.2 diesel and 24 volt electrical system. It was built up in Michigan at AM General as a prototype in testing for the Hummer. From what I have been told, there were 3 of these built, this being the old survivor. It has been sitting in the same place for over 20 years and was parked due to a bad break line. I hope to start the tear down soon, I don't have allot of time right now so it will be a slow process.

Here are some pics.

Alternators, winches, 4x4, guns all have the same issue if you don't have any knowledge of them usually bad things will happen. Serehill

I'm in Elkhart myself, however the jeep is now sitting in Mishawaka. I'm hoping to see if I can get the motor started this weekend. Should be interesting after such along time sitting.

Open ended right now. I would like to get it up and running and do all the maintenance first off. I have never been a big fan of doing alot right off the bat. If something goes wrong its hard to pin down where the problem is. I would however like to put the Banks turbo kit on the existing 6.2 motor and do a mild suspension lift 2-4 inches at most.

Wow what a cool project! With it being wide track a 4" lift will get you 33s with ease, more than enough for most situations. Good luck, interested to see it get going. Very unique rig!

Thanks, I was not able to work on it this week at all. 9-10 hr days at work all week and 9 hrs Saturday. I did get oil and a filter so in the next couple days I am going to get it running. It really needs a good cleaning, smells like mouse piss on the inside and theirs a lot of stuff glowing on the body. 20 years will do that I guess ha.

When I got mine the PO had sprinkled rat pellets on the a/c and intake. They didn't work as when I stripped out the top end I found a very crispy mouse body. The smell...it was unique.
