Question about message formatting

Post by tgreese »

Prompted by a recent post in the tech forum - rather than confronting the poster -

What prompts someone to post long rambling posts without any paragraphs, punctuation or capitalization? I find this format incredibly hard to read, so much that I pass it over.

Seen it before. Is this something about posting from a phone? Is it fashion? Why would anyone make their posts intentionally illegible?

Just wondering.

Phone posting might explain it. I will usually give it a shot but if I can't comprehend it after a few 'sentences' I also just give up. Honestly, I am no grammar expert. (See what I did there). But I give it a good try to make it as readable as possible when sharing my thoughts.

But I never post up from the phone. Most of my friends even know that my texts will be short and if they want to 'talk' either call me or write an email. I type really fast on a computer keyboard but on a phone I am a snail so I just don't like using it for longer messages.

I agree. Even if it seems interesting and readable other than it being one paragraph I usually don't bother.

My mom taught me not to read using my finger maybe sixty years ago.

Should I get started on texting shortcuts or whatever they're called? Nah.

When posting from a phone, there is still a return button for new lines. But maybe they use text to speech or something and forget that they can also put in punctuation and new lines while dictating.

But, I agree it can make a post a lot harder to read. But no way for me to enforce post formatting or anything. Best to just politely ask the poster if they could clean up the formatting. With politely being the key word there :)
