The 6.2 was in the 85 Jimmy. Normally aspirated. The jimmy was my first true 4wd. During my ownership I had to replace the injector pump, the hydroboost brake unit, r&p's in both front and rear corp axles. The only good thing about that Jimmy was that it did not require bi-annual smog testing.
A friend of mine introduced me to “pre-running” four door sedans in the Canadian River bed and Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo Texas back in 1952. It required more skill and know how for the most part than driving a 4x4. I have videos I made in Palo Duro during a Jeep Jamboree USA.
I bought our ’76 401 Waggie in 1984 to haul our 17’ Tipi. We did some off-roading with 17 24 foot long poles strapped to the top and a heavy camping load. We quickly learned we couldn’t do the Colorado Mountain trails with our Tipi and it’s poles.
Our Waggie went over 261 Colorado Mountain Pass roads and some of them 20 or more times.
We’ve had four 4x4s…
76 401 Q-T Waggie, ‘81 360 208Waggie, ‘99 V-8 GC, and still have a ‘99 Frontier KC V-6.
Wow just looked up the GM6.2L V8 diesel numbers 135hp/250tq & GM6.5L V8 turbo 190hp/380tq !
The AMG-6500 NA = 160hp/290tq, AMG-6500 Turbo = 190hp/385tq or 205hp/440tq depending on configuration.
Seem like they would make good FSJ power plants, The AMC-360 was 195hp/245tq last I knew what was the 258 ? Like 150hp/230tq ? The 401 was 215hp/320tq . . . So I would think any of them diesels would be comparable
I’m getting senile in my old age. I listed that I had four 4x4s but it’s actually five. I left out a sweet little ‘95 Nissan 4x4 king cab V-6 automatic.

My first 4x4 was a 76 Bronco. 302/3 on the tree/ np205. The last 2 years of the early Bronco were the best because they have disc brakes up front. I consider it like a jeep in some respects. They used the exact same body style from 66-77. I still have it. Took classes at the local community college. They were non credit classes but I had access to an entire body shop every Saturday morning. Went to those religiously for over a year. Then sent it to the body shop to get it finished off. Medium Canyon Red for the body and Medium Charcoal Met. for the grill and flares.
I am sure I have some somewhere. I will try and dig em up. I love that old truck. Its in storage now though. I need to get it out and drive it. What i really need to do is get off my arse and get it ready and bring it to Ouray along with the kids Waggy when/if he ever gets it done. )
1984 Bronco 2 that saw dirt about twice. Don't even remember how it shifted into 4wd. Rolled it on Hwy 17 into Santa Cruz going to a mountain bike race. I don't miss it.

"Raliegh Montebello" over on the ghost ship.
1986 Grand Wagoneer, Silver with razor grille, white steel wheels dougmoak@gmail.com
1980 Suzuki LJ80. This thing was a kiler! 800cc 4-banger that produced a neck snapping 42 horsepower and 44 lb-ft of torque. With 4.10 gearing and the four speed tranny, this baby could almost go 50mph. Downhill. With a strong tailwind.
It was rather modified when I got it with a snazzy plywood box. FSJ's have nothing on Suzuki's in the rust department.
The engine eventually threw a rod. I parked it at my parents house intending to do something with it someday, and it was caught in a flood. That was the end of my dear old suzook.
'68 J3000 327/T18/D20 Work in Progress (this implies that I actually get time to work on it)
A black wrangler (TJ), never got interested by an Asian or British 4x4
I think i'll sell it in a few months, too modern for me, as i get older i prefer the earlier ones like my FSJs, and moreover they are easier to maintain
J10 81, J10 77, CJ7 80, Gladiator 64, Wagoneer 65, ZJ 5.9
parts vehicles : wagoneer 63, cherokee Golden eagle
first 4x4 and first vehicle were the same.
A 1982 chevy K20 customm delux regular cab, long bed truck. My Mother bought it new in '82, and I bought it from here in '94. When I got it, it had over 350K miles, and the body was kind of rough, but the stock drive train was still going strong. Drive train was 350, 465, 208, corp 10 bolt front, 14 bolt rear. It had 3.73 axle gears, 4" suspension lift, and 33's.
I rebuilt it and drove it untill sometime in 2002 when I sold it to get a more family friendly extended cab truck.
1986 Cherokee. Four door, five speed. In my family since new. Mom gave it to me when i was in hs, and bought a jetta. I wrecked it out after a year or two. Rolled it three times after some drunk hit me. Crushed my arm in the process, so now the left is sorta kinda bionical, if by bionical you mean mostly metal. I really really wish I still had that or could find another white four door 5 spd 86 cherokee with tan interior.
My obsession with jeeps (and vws) started with that jeep. My buddy drove a red 86 cherokee chief and we used to trail ride together.
