I took my 72 j4000 long bed bench seat out and to the uphostery shop last week. Local Morgan Hill CA shop. He has an excellent reputation and I have seen his work as well.
There are broken springs in the drivers side seat. Broken back support springs are broken as well. The foam is gone in some areas and is rotted over the whole thing. The base mating smells of cigarette smoke and butt funk. He is going to strip the entire frame and start over.
I want a heavy duty black vinyl. no tuck and roll or original stitching. $750 seems pretty high, but when I think of time to strip it, reweld or fix the springs, new backing and better foam, plus the vinyl, add in labor suddenly sounds more reasonable. putting a seat cover over a broken seat is not much of an option.
I've also seen some of their work in restored cars and it looked very good and very close to factory original.
Their webpage has Jeep trucks & Wagoneers listed.

Where do you live that a reupholster job on a seat is $300? I was quoted $760 to do my front and rear seats in my 86. I'm switching to newer seats and buying Wet Okle covers and it's still cheaper than the recover.

In the late 80's I found a supplier of new material made to fit, they provided the hog rings and hog rings pliers, paid $150 for the whole set front and rear, very nice, still holding up and looks factory, until the mice decided to use it as a home....
It was probably in hemmings motor news as this was BW, before Web

I have a 84 j10. I am looking for a bench seat to put in it so I can put my daughters car seat in there as well. I’m thinking it’ll be hard to find a bench seat from a j10 or 20 but may be able to get a wagoneer one to work. Any ideas how to get ahold of one? No local junk yards have any and I keep running into dead ends looking online.

depending on your location, there are jeep junkyard specialists... jandW in sacramento, there is one on the east coast int he Carolinas, and one in Montana... will get links on the mothership...ifsja dot org... shipping will be astronomical
and tanker , location: East of Ashville near Little Switzerland NC.Sorry we dont give the address out due to the fact that have not found a GPS unit that can find use. We are before the banjos next to the howling wolfs.
looks like a chevy bench will not fit, there are no provision for the trans tunnel, check lmctruck.com as it has a lot of the bits such as foam and covers

It’s cordura 500d material what MOLLE gear is made from. Got a few yards of coyote brown and a singer 66, some hog rings and went to town! It was a learning experience for sure but the finished product is rad! Its water proof/rip resistant and looks pretty good for a first timer.

Where are you located? The Cherokee and Wagoneer bench is a bolt in but does not fold forward. I have seen them in Cherokee 4 doors but don't recall that being an option for the 2 door models.
