1981 Wagoneer trim decode

Post by SugrDaddy »

Hi All, I'm brand new to this community, just bought a 1981 Wagoneer! Can anyone help decode my trim plate? I already decoded the VIN but I'm trying to determine the interior color(s). A picture of the plate is attached.

That info is given in the parts books. My book only covers up to 1980, but there are parts books that cover 1981 at the www.oljeep.com site. Look there and if you can't find I'll help.

Thanks, I appreciate the guidance. I checked out that site and it seems to have everything except the interior colors I'm looking for. Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the board! Do you have some pics of the interior? Actually, post up pics of the rig. We love pics!

I looked at the 81-86 book but could not connect your trim code 5AH to a color in the few minutes I had. They give plenty of parts for specific codes but i don't see a table that lists the codes with their meanings. I'll try more later.

The '74-80 parts book explicitly links the trim codes with a description. However, 5AH is not listed in the tables in that book. It is listed many times in the 1981-86 parts book, but never associated with a description; only a part number for the item (panel, seat, etc.)

These codes specify a color scheme (ie "Russet"), a style like vinyl or cloth, and a seating type such as bench seat or buckets. Does your Jeep have any interior parts? You could perhaps connect the existing interior pieces with the code. Or you could post pictures of the interior and someone could identify the trim from the factory sales brochures. If you could match the sales literature, then you could conclude that 5AH is "Russet purse vinyl with bucket seats" or such. There may also be another document that I don't know of that links the code with a description.

81-86 parts manual, Group 29, Seats, Soft Trim
Codes are listed by year and model at the front of the section.
Disclaimer: the full code shown in the manual is T-25AH
But for our use you only use the last 3 characters, 5AH.
Tim this is Jim.

Hi Jim - thought it was you. Would be consistent with your handle on IFSJA. The '81-86 parts book from oljeep.com (all I have) does not include group 29. That must be why I could not find it! :)

Okay. Then the code posted is correct.
The full code is: T-35BF.
I have no idea what T-3 in the code would represent; maybe the supplier of the fabric ?

Thanks for the information Hagar! This definitely matches the color I'm seeing. I've heard this is an uncommon color and difficult to find. That's unfortunate for me since this Jeep needs a dash pad and several other interior parts. I'll try to post some pictures later today.
