Got a fairly nice looking cherokee golden eagle wide track in the salvage yard 20 min from me. And i was wondering. Arent these Jeeps lifted from factory ? Would the leaf springs work on a grand wagoneer ?
Here isa pic of the cherokee in general. Im reallly confused why someone would trade this in for 250$ to the salvage yard man.. I woulds paid tripple that to that person LOL.. Its worth sooo much more man. Wish i had a wide track. Im going to go there today to check it out. Front fender flair looks in great shape too. The rear is rusted but that can be fixed by cleaning up the rust and fiberglass.
Id kill to have those flairs on my wagoneer. If anyone needs any parts from a 79 cherokee widetrack lemme know

Provided its a 1976 or newer model (That one looks like a 79), the leaf springs of every FSJ will work between the others. Prior to 76, there was several lengths used depending on Jeep model and bed length on the trucks.
Its a 79 yes. How much of a lift did the cherokees have over the wagoneers.. eve. with my new oem springs it looks like it has a good 2 inchs over me. I wonder if itd be worth it ?

But what do you guys think of the factory brush guard. This cherokee had one
Looks exactly like this one. Looks like its mount with just 1 or two bolts in each side of the frame when i saw in the junkyard. Snd upper bolts as well but i dunno if they went behind thr bumper or i didmt check.
But i could get this for 25$ assuming i can get it off
Edge molding around the tailgate glass, if it's SS rather than plastic, is worth grabbing.

It does have a fantastic headliner though.. someone did it in vinyl at one time. And these two headliner boards are straight and not warped at all.. which is rare to find.
I think ill go back there and get them. I dont need em but someone probly does

The Cherokees got the same springs as the Wagoneer. No lift from the factory. I think they look taller because of the larger fender opening with flares.
Removing springs is not so hard if you have the right tools. Hopefully the yard has this Jeep up on stands, otherwise that's up to you. Cut the top arch of the u-bolts; they will come loose with a bang (don't be startled). Not sure a saw will do it - I use a cutoff disk in my driveway. Use your impact to remove the springs - two bolts. You can cut the shackles if you need to.
Compared to the energy you put into your frame repair, this task should be easy.

Another question.. Do you guys think its worth grabbing the rubber body mounts ? The Jeep i noticed had good looking rubber mounts with No cracks in them. Mine all the rubber mounts 70% of the rubber is missing or smooshed or cracked horribly. Just another project i need to do.
The Jeep is on rims now, someone grabbed the wheel from it, and i tossed 4 rims under the frame to keep it in the air vs relying on the factory jack and some scizzor jack that person used to hold it up. Just dunno if its worth the hassle. I have new springs on mine well i did it 3 years ago, but they are oem height springs made in america. I shoulda got lifted springs but at the time i just wanted a stock look.
I guess itd be dumb to put 40 year old springs on my Jeep for 1 inch of lift.
I think i might go back there tomorrow and see if i can grab the rubber body mounts. My Jeep is horrible like i said most of the mounts the bottom bushing isnt even there anymore lol. I sometimes wonder how my Body hasnt flown off yet. The rear i can grab the bumper and lift and push up and down and it bangs on the body.. lol
Or should i spend $100-200 on new body mounts ? Anyone recomend some good ones, with non chinese rubber that wont crack in a year

I would get a new body mounts without even thinking about 40 year old ones not worth it, especially considering all the troubles of replacing them - you don’t want to do it twice. BJs sells a kit for $95

Did some research the 79-80 wt cherokees were 1 to 1.5 inchs higher then the other Jeeps.. these years only though
Cherokee wide tracks came with 31" tires over the 28" tires of the non-wide tracks. That is where you get the extra height. My Cherokee however came with a 2 spring pack in the front and a 7 spring pack in the back.
They had a lift as well look it up. Lots of info on 1 to 1.5 inch factory lift not just the 31s. This cherokee has 6 in the front. Didnt count the rear. Ill snap pics of it when i go back though
Instead of taking the leafs. Im getting a 2 inch add a leaf kit. I have brand new leaf springs so adding a leaf to em will be fine. Im sure 31s will fit after that specially with new springs plus the add a leaf over old springs and a add a leaf well see.
I just got a brushless angle grinder from ryobi and (4) 4ah batteries. So besides the frame peice i need by the gas tank. Im going to take the leaf spring brackets for the rear. Mine are pretty rusted and thin in spots. Id feel safer if i cut mine off and welded on good ones.

I had a 1977 Cherokee WT and a 1976 J10 both with dealer installed Snow Boss plow packages. Both vehicles had two leaf spring pack on the front. Counterintuitive as it may be, I believe this was part of the heavy duty suspension package option.
I used to name my FSJ’s after their previous owners, I realized I had too many with five named Rick.

Does not seem heavy duty does it? That is what we figured this one had.
Yes, fewer leaves equals stiffer suspension. 2 leaf was the heaviest option, with 4-7 leaves for other packs. With the 7 leaf system of the GW being the softest.
