Tall Waggy Drivers

Post by GrandJoshoneer »

I’m trying to get my high school senior to use the ‘87 GW as a daily driver to and from school this fall, about 6 miles round trip. Problem is he’s 6’4 (and growing), has long legs, and learned to drive with his mom’s VW Atlas. He says there is not enough leg room with the seat all the way back and steering wheel all the way up. I think it’s just different and he will grow accustomed to it.

Just curious, any tall Wagoneer drivers out there? If so, any advice?

I am 6ft 3in, and I have never had leg or head room in an FSJ. I actually find them to be more roomy than either of my JK's, which are both decently roomy.

6'1" tall with a 34" inseam. No issues here. I daily drive a 4th gen F body, and the Wag is way more comfortable and roomy.

May be his polite way to say "no, thank you Dad" and he is growing!

Everyone posting is 6'3".... waiting for the 6'4" dudes' replies... Time to extend to seat rails... we tried to BS a dealership in HS and have our 6'4" friend trying to fit in a mini cooper.... the one featured in bad obsession... the dealer suggested extending the seat rails... in fact he was fine seating in the back seat

Im fat and semi tall. I mean Im only 6ft tall, i guess im taller then average height ? But im 300lbs, so with thick legs my legs hit the steering wheel bottom almost. My ZJ i have 3-4 inchs of room but the wagoneers steering wheel sits low.

6ft 4in. We fit. My advice is what all of us tall folks have to do in planes, beds, cars and showers. "Suck it up butter cup".

I changed the seat pedestals when I replaced the (shot) buckets, made them shorter and moved them back two inches.
Had to limit the changes because my wife is 5'3" and it's her Jeep. She also loves the factory (huge) steering wheel, but
we both manage to fit, mostly due to the factory tilt. I did the seat pedestals on my Chevelle wagon for the same reason.
Switched from bench to buckets and never looked back.

I don’t have the stock steering wheel, so I guess that helps. Never drove it with the stock wheel.

Am 6-4, 36 in inseam - no issues here; seems plenty of leg & headroom from my perspective.

Looks like he’ll just have to get over it. Nice to see there are some tall folks who make it work.
