Fogging Windows

Post by HowardT64 »

How in the world do I combat this? Is there a cleaner that will help keep this under control? I was out just a bit ago and the inside windows fogged up almost to the point I could not see.

Any Ideas?

Do you have a sweet smell new to truck? Maybe heater core leaking. If not just open one window a bit and should clear up.

This typically means you have a water leak someplace in the Jeep. Could be in the cowl vent, and running down onto the carpet or the like.

There is a product from RainX that can help prevent it, but you need to find the source of the moisture.

Happens in very humid climates. Specially if it rains. What i do is crack the 4 windows down 2 inchs or so when driving and it clears them all up. Keep the windows cracked down or itll fig back up.

Th3 problem with these Jeeps is the defroster/defog is heat only. On modern vehicles its heat and a.c. Thats why modern cars dont have this issue when the defog is on.

The a.c pulls moisture out of the cabin and the heater renoves it from the windsheild.

With just the heater on it actually nakes the fogging worse.

So yea. Keeo the defog on. And crack the 4 windows down a few inchs. Itll clear up

X2 as said above, and do a bit of low tech : dirt starts to stick to the inside of the windows, the windshield is the annoying bit... you need to clean with window cleaner, dry and repeat with a slightly acidic solution of white vinegar/water... as much as you can stand, 10% white vinegar in water... rub, and dry and dry and dry with whatever you have handy, paper towel to start, but rags do a better job, you need a few rags, a few dry rags.

Re what Michel says about using rags, suggest you buy a dozen "bar mops," small soft cotton towels that you iconically see the bartender mopping the bar with. Absorbent, soft, washable, cheap at ca $1 ea in a pack. You can reserve them for car washing and window cleaning etc. and toss them in the wash when they are soiled. Also make a good substitute for disposable paper towels in the kitchen.

Running the AC will help by dehumidifying the air but not if you have the windows open.

On the rigs with older gauges you can hook a tee in place of the dash switch and have both heat and defrost air going.

I clean as follows.

Microfiber. Wipe windshield up/down with dry microfiber, folding often to remove excess oil film.

Isopropyl alcohol or vinegar (your choice) with paper towels. Do 1/4 of the windshield at a time. Wet rag. Wipe up/down. Dry off with dry rag.

Good cleaner from parts store. NOT Windex (I hate that stuff). Apply to microfiber. Wipe up/down over small area of glass. Repeat with dry rag.

Just did mine.

I did. On my ‘73 and ‘84 I used the switch just for on/off and joined the vacuum hose out of the switch to the floor and windshield vent motors. I used a ‘76? Chevy Truck fan motor Replacement so the air actually moved.
