Clock on intrument panel suddenly reading in military time ?

Post by candymancan »

I just fixed the bad wiring from a short on my visor wiring that shorted on the body and fried the pink 18ga wire on the ceiling down to the floorboard. Everything works again. Ran the Jeep for awhile tonight around town and i noticed my clock on the intrument cluster is now running military time lol. How do i fix this ? Im not army so i dont go by 1500 hours and stuff lol.

Disconnecting the battery could reset the clock...
this morning with the amount of smoke obscuring the sky, I could hardly tell 7am from 7pm...10am now it is still pitch black w an orange glow...

Setting the clock is probably in the owner's manual. Usually devices like this have a battery or supercap in them so the memory retains the settings. The Jeep may be old enough that there's no juice to hold the memory. Also, when you shorted out, it could have sent random power pulses into the device that changed or wiped out the settings.

yes, the 86 and latter have a fancier electronic system. The one I tested seem to hold current time for a while, 15 to 30min at least.... enough to swap battery without having to reset the time.

Well i fixed the clock. I smacked the cluster pretty hard but without hurting the plastic cover and now its reading time like i want. Lol weird.

As far as holding current time. It doesnt count time as it progresses. But what it does do is hold the time it was at. So if i un ugged the battery at 6pm. 30 min later i plug it back in. And itll be 6pm still so you do have to adjust thr clock . At least on mine i do
