Interchange?

Post by 66stepside »

Are the alternator and power steering brackets between the 1980’s 258 I6 4.2 interchangeable with the 4.0 I6’s with the serpentine belt system brackets?

There is more than one pully system used on 80's 4.0s. And the brackets are different between the variants.

There is also more than one 258 belt system. I can think of two v-belt and one serpentine belt setup for 80's 258s.

If you are asking if they can all be bolted to each other, I think the answer is mostly yes. But a v-belt alternator bracket for instance wont work with the serpentine belt system for either engine.

What is your goal?

I picked up a late model 258 with HEI, carb and what not, but it is missing the power steering pump and alternator plus their respective brackets.

I got it super cheap, for parts for my 81, but I got it running, tested compression, and it seems like a really good, solid motor.

Now I’d like to get the brackets and accessories back on it and run some more basic tests and keep it as a back up.

Ahh cool. Looks nice.

That’s a beefy A/C delete pulley.

Haha, yeah. I wonder if that was a home built delete plate.

It has quite a few good parts. I’ll be hitting up the local wrecking yards looking for engine codes to find some misc parts.

If you decide you don't want that pulley where the A/C would go, please contact me. I would like to buy this.
