1972 jeep gladiator 4800

Post by willythekid »

Hi everyone! Recently picked up a 72’ gladiator 4800, I’m super excited to get it up and going. I was recently under it and noticed a PTO off the back of the transfer case. Was this standard on these trucks, and has anyone run anything cool off of it?? I’m sure I’ll have real questions down the road! Lol

Welcome from eastern Massachusetts.

Your Gladiator came with a Dana 20 transfer case. The PTOs for this TC mount to the bottom of the unit, not the back. If you have the 4-speed manual transmission, there is a PTO that mounts to the side of the transmission.

There is an overdrive that mounts to the back of the transfer case.

These units are "Official Jeep Special Equipment" that could come from the factory, but were typically installed by the dealer at time of sale. They could also be bought over the Jeep dealership parts counter, for installation by the customer.

Perhaps you can attach a picture of what you have, for easier identification.
