I have spent the last couple of weeks on it. I took it to work to iron out some idling issues. Got it purring real nicely. I pulled the plastic valve cover to reseal it, and found a bent push rod. found a stuck valve, so I pulled the head off one I have in the yard, went through it and resealed it. The new head had a steel valve cover, so I scored there. I drove it home today (less then 8 miles) and filled it up on the way. Noticed the fuel guage level didnt go higher then 1/8 tank. will have to look into that.
Runs great. Geared better then I expected. Need to tint the windows...
Plans and priorities have changed, and in reality, I just wont get to this unless I hit the Lotto. Decided its time to let it go. Wanted to let the group know in case one of you are serious about it, I want it cared for, not just trashed.
I have new tires all the way around on Ford rims with less then 5K miles on them from Big O Tires. Original rims and hubcaps go with it. Optima battery, and if you want it the original dizy and parts I removed. Clutch is leaking somewhere, just have not had time to chase it. Honestly I also never put it into 4 wheel drive. The vac lines looked like they all need replaced and I never got to them.
That's no joke. I had an 81 Eagle with the 4 speed, it got destroyed and that's when I found out their very rare. Most came with the automatic.
I think in 82? they went to a 5 speed. The 4 speeds are VERY hard to find.
Swapped the auto into my car out of necessity and it killed it in the performance area. It was pretty peppy with the 4 speed and a dog with the auto.
Very, very cool cars. Mine would go about anywhere and a ton of places some really trick 4x4 trucks couldn't go. I wish I could find another one but they are getting harder to find in decent condition.
There were 2 different Eagle 4 speeds or 3 kinds if you count the 4 cyl vs 6 cyl.
SR4 or SR5 (built for '70s Toyota Corollas and Corona's and a few 4 cyl pickups) or T4/T5. Haven't seen any BA 10/5s yet, but heard they were available 1 year ('87)
I would convert to AX-15 and either 23 spline NP or NV242 (to have 2WD, 4WD hi lock, AWD and 4 low lock plus neutral for options) or something else fairly strong.
The factory T5 is too weak longterm in the Eagle. Same one the CJs blew up, even with 4 cyl AMC motors.
A buddy of mine is modding his world class T5 (he already has it and rebuilt it for his Mustang) to run his 5.0L in my old Spirit hatchback we turned into an SX4. Unlike the one on that show "Lost in Transmission" it WILL stay 4x4!
