From Ried:
Reid Racing, Inc. announces the Super Hydra™ 400 replacement case for the GM Turbo Hydra 400 transmission.
All of the shortcomings of the GM case have been addressed in this new, massively strong case.
It is SFI 4.1 certified without the need for internal liners or external shields.
The two-piece design allows the use of existing Reid Racing Superglide bellhousings, so it can be fitted behind all popular engine families.
The case is a direct replacement for the GM case, including governor and speedometer provisions.
The Reid Racing case includes dozens of improvements over the GM case.
It is manufactured by using the incredibly expensive permanent mold casting method, which ensures the toughest, strongest, and most accurate parts possible.
Most importantly, permanent mold castings do not leak.
Numerous transmission builders have been involved in the development and refinement of the design.
Preproduction cases are finishing extensive dyno and track testing and production will begin shortly, as soon as we are satisfied that we have a race-ready design.
The Super Hydra™ 400 will retail for $1,499 which includes a new billet steel pressure plate.
Bryan Smith's comments/many questions/discussion points:
I did not know that the stock OE TH400 case was a weak point.
Has anyone broken a TH400 case...and I mean not by hitting on a rock.
If Reid would product an AMC Bell for this Super 400, does it have any effect on us and our Hobby?
Would this make a difference in a FSJ with a strong AMC V8 in front of it?
Would the Go-Fast AMC Car guys be interested in something like this?
Wonder is this fat case would fit in an AMC car?
