HOA outlet

Post by Gumby »

I have to get this out (it is FSJ related). Well today I get a letter in the mail from my HOA, well my wife opened it then called to me. Showed me a picture of my house with my truck in the driveway. WTF???? Well the letter said I needed to clean up my driveway! Well I get on the phone and spoke to the division rep. She informed me that it was just a courtesy letter due to the drip pan in my driveway. This ended up being a fifteen minute call due to me being a responsible home owner attempting to not having my jeep make a mess of my drive way. She tell me that I needed to put it in my garage when ever I move my vehicle because it is a directive in the by-laws. I almost lst it one her :x . I just told her that she can expect an email from me with a rebuttal to her letter because I feel they are harrasing the home owners, damn if I do and damned if I don't. I guess that as a consolation she told me I was a good home owner, this was only my second letter. We have to put up with then for atleast one more year before the owners can take over the board and change the rules.

Next oil change, dump your old oil under her engine, take a picture, send it to her asking her to please use a drip pan.

My parents once got a letter from their HOA about removing my dad's small fishing boat from the property to store it elsewhere. It was stored INSIDE the garage on the trailer but they stated that boats were not allowed to be stored ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY at all. They no longer live in that neighborhood.

Ouch! Whata Pita. You can store your drippy Jeep here any time Martin. Good luck with the engagement.

I do like Matt's idea too but only when I win the lottery and on my way out of this house.

Flint: If I choose to store it at youre place, will it magically become a 4OH1 too  ? Just a thought.

I do have to say that these HOA bozoes really have made me understand that they are more crooks than caretakers. I know of some areas where the HOA will sell your home right from under you (even with a mortgage) for non-payment of their dues. One day I hope to get away from them and have enough acreage to do as I please.

That way you can have room for more Jeeps! I can't see my neighbors house from mine, but you know your in good company when your neighbor is a bigger jeep nut than you are.

Martin,
You need a place to store the rig?

You could put it in my front yard and no one would care.
Heck, you could put it in my back yard and it would improve the looks of things out there.

Tad, I was thinking the same thing. But at my house. Sandy wouldn't notice one more Jeep

No, no problem with the storage of the rig. Just when I drive the darn thing they want me to put the drip tray in my freaking garage. So it is not an eye sore.

I'm stuck in my HOA as well. Home won't sell, but haven't been harassed about the truck for a little while. When wife graduates from nursing school we are gonna make it a rental.

Very happy I don't have a home owners associate here. Although one thing I have to say for California, there are a lot of laws regarding HOA's that make it harder for them to become rampant dictatorships.

Being a gear head, when we bought this house a few years ago (our first!) at the top of the list was no HOA. I had heard so many horror stories.

Our town has some pretty strict rules but one neighbor is a Jeep guy and there are a bunch of other gear heads so, thankfully, we're in good shape. Good luck!

I never understood why anyone would want to give power over their own property and what they do with it to another entity. Over the years I simply refused to live anywhere these gestapo organizations exist.

It's not always possible to avoid them. When I bought my first house after moving up here and renting forever, every single house on the market in my price range was either an evicted crack house in the slums or fell under an HOA.

Not all HOAs are that bad either. The HOA I was part of maintained a park and playground equipment, a swimming pool, the roads through the neighborhood that were all gravel, AND the well that provided us all with our water. Obviously this was a rural HOA and operated more like a small village municipality than an urban HOA.
