The never ending adventures of Ruprecht

Post by Guapo »

Ruprecht is my 1987 Grand Wagoneer.

I recently bought Ruprecht from a pair of guys representing the original owner. Turns out they were "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels."

Bone stock down to the original radio. Most every electrical option is in working order; seats, rear window, mirrors, visor light, all that. 128,xxx on the odometer which works, but the speedo doesn't. I knew there were a few things that needed work, but got a real surprise on my way home when I lost oil pressure and the knocking started. Long story short I limped it home and got it into a mechanic near me 2 days later. He did a full inspection and dropped the oil pan. Turns out there was a brand new oil pump but the rod bearings were toast and the PO was trying to mask it long enough to unload it.

After a few days of redline blood pressure I started to weigh my options. So right now the engine is getting a full rebuild at the machine shop. Im working with an additional shop to do the motor exit and re-entry. I'm hoping to have it back in a few days so I can finally drive it. If that goes well, then we can start having fun with making it mine.

It looks to be in great shape. Bummer about the motor. I hope all goes well with it.
