77 Wagoneer Rebuild

Post by xjranger2003 »

My 12 year old, Josh, has been asking for a project truck. I've always wanted a full size jeep Wagoneer or GW. I found a rough wagoneer for $600.

The roof and most of the body is good but the floors and two of the quarter panels will require attention. The whole floor needs to be replaced.

Here's some pictures...

We gutted the interior yesterday and made templates of the floor. We need to go back and mark the templates for holes and critical alignment points.

Josh wants a silver(or gray) body with a black stripe and black accessories. I'm leaning towards camouflage or olive drab. We are planning on bed liner for the floor. The truck was missing most of the interior except an unusable front bench seat. I'd like to find a 40/20/40 bench. It looks like the Durangos are a replacement.

I'm wanting this to be a daily driver and fun with mild offroad wheeling. I'm thinking 4" lift with 32" tires.

Wife wants to know a budget. :ugeek: She always takes care of my dreams!

I want a daily driver with 31's with a decent ride and the ability to comfortably drive 150-200 miles a day. Engine is not currently running due to fuel tank not installed and no seats. I don't mind trimming wheel wells.

Currently thinking a mild rebuild with some sort of fuel injection (leaning towards Edelbrock MPFI), 2-3" lift, Dodge Durango seats (front and rear). Hopefully the transmission and transfer case will work for now.

What components would you use and why?

Great family time project. BJ’s offers floors plan cut and ribbed for a decent price.

My understanding is they don't cover the whole floor. I think I'll give them a call today.

Take a look at this thread - http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=121305 - your floors are not too far from the ones shown here.

You have a lot of body work to do. Thinking about lifts and tires and drivetrain and such may be a bit premature.

Best of luck - looks like a great project!

Might be but the wife wants a best guess as to what the budget might be. She understands it will go up but the accountant wants to know....

Give her a number and then allow "Budget Creep" to take its natural route. LOL

77 Wagoneer Rebuild

Won’t the bjs 2.5” lift work to clear 31s? Hope this one turns out nice! With the tank out it might be good to look at an LS swap if you are really considering fuel injection. Get a 4l60e trans for over drive too, as a package deal all day long for 1-1.5k. Tank is out too, so time to get an s10 blazer tank. Exactly what I’m doing minus the trans. Novak and advanced adaptors make adaptors for the trans. And someone made motor mount kits.
