Well mine is 8 lug and I'm thinking about going to the 6x5.5 pattern. I already have extra wheels and a new set of 33x10,5 BFG's from my Toyota.
I come from the crawler world where everything gets a Dana 60 and 14FF. But I have no desire to go that route. I think this J3800 is going to get 6 lug axles and stay a cruiser.
Haha I do too, built buggies for a few decades. I do plan on doing some towing but still really don’t need a FF rear axle, I’m really just challenging myself
The bus I ride is so short it is a yellow Smart Car full of squirrels, monkeys and clowns.
JMO - I'd just leave it alone and drive it. I presume you want it as a cool old 4x4 truck, not some other project. Seems like a lot of work for nothing if you aren't planning to wheel it hard. Closed knuckle axle is strong enough, but the turning radius is not great. You can convert the front to disks pretty easily using Chevy brackets and calipers, or buy a kit. If you need advice on the brakes or servicing the closed-knuckle axle, ask here or check the early CJ-5 forums. All the Jeep closed-knuckle axle outers from this era are essentially the same.
Cool truck - I like it a lot!

I think you’re right. I’ve been thinking about it. It’s be easier to find wheels that fit right than swapping both axles. I just wrapped up 3 years on my Toyota and im out of energy.
So the first thing done so far. The old Rochester was puking fuel. There was no phenolic spacer and I think the gasket was wrong. So I ordered a Trans-dapt 2040 adapter and a an Amazon carburetor and it purrs. Next to reseal the th400 pan ann and see if it will go into gear.
Welcome and it's nice jeep. It's looking a little bit rusty. So my advice is to go for a new paint job and replace the rusty items and then it will look like brand new Car.
Ugggg that sucks! Take it easy and heal up. Broken wrists suck, takes a long time to get full strength back. If your doc does not prescribe physical therapy at least visit a therapist and get some advice and exercises to do, it will help immensely.

Toyota rodeo! That hurts, fractured my left wrist as a teenager and many years later had carpal tunnel surgery on same wrist. And I am left handed It does take a while to mend, it will get better. Good luck.
