As of right now, there aren’t any skid plate plans, but I’m sure there will be one in the future. I’m really grateful for all of the stuff and equipment I have at my disposal. That’s the benefit of having a dad who has restored cars from home for 17+ years. Image
We cut the hole in the bedside and started to fab up the filler. What we did was take part of the original j10 filler (the outer most part) and then we welded part of a k5 blazer filler neck onto it. It took us quite a while and took a lot of cutting and guess and checking but it did work out in the end. It’s almost ready to put fuel in. We also got all the wires hooked up and put wire loom on it all the way to the front to make it look cleaner underneath.

We had to put the hole lower on the bed because otherwise it would intrude too much into the inner bedside and we wouldn’t have a good way to hide it.

I got my front bumper put back on today. I had taken it off because I wanted to straighten it but we have a local carshow this weekend that my family has been a part or pretty much since it started in the 80’s and I want to get my truck there so I just bolted it back on for now and put the front license plate on. For some reason I completely forgot to take a picture of it though

I got my engine computer mounted also. Also ran some wire loom to make it look a little prettier. We took it out for a spin today out on the road, and I’m happy to say, it handled pretty well!

This is it with the bumper on. It drives me nuts with how twisted it is but it makes it legal so I’m dealing with it for now.

Also thank you to my dad for taking the left front hub apart. It had been making a grinding noise so he took it apart and got to the root of the issue. It turns out a piece of behind the brake rotor had rusted off and was spinning and grinding against it making the noise.

Back at home after a successful maiden voyage. Now I have about 20 miles on the truck with the ls in it. She didn’t win any trophies but I did get lots of compliments and questions and met a few people in the area that have fsj’s.

Well it doesn’t count as working on my truck, but at work today I got to drive a skidsteer around moving engines and transmissions and rear ends into a semi-trailer. As a fifteen year old, it was really fun to do.

I got my seat belts and got them installed this morning. They look pretty good. They came with hardware, which I used some of but with how long the bolts need to be to go into the floor I just used some of my old stuff. They retract and lock well so overall I’m pretty happy with them.

Today I switched my headliners. I forgot to grab a picture of it. It looks sooo much better now. It was a real PITA to get the old one out because I hadn’t taken it out before so I didn’t know how. On each side it looks like it has the lip and it’s textured so it looks like a part of the headliner, but it isn’t, that’s what the headliner sets in so that had me stumped for about 5 minutes. Once I got one side out the other side came out much easier because I could just pull it. Installation went better too since I understood how it came out. Then since the old headliner made a mess, because it had like the old disintegrating foam crap that rains on you whenever you bump it, I vacuumed out the inside of the truck. I also put rain-x on the windshield.

I haven’t made a post on this in quite some time. I haven’t touched the truck in quite a while. It’s just been sitting outside in the driveway being neglected because my dad got a new wrecked truck that we’re fixing up. However, in terms of a bed, we came up with a solution. I’m not sure if this has been done before, but we are going to put an 80’s ford stepside bed on it. Image
My dad made a post of facebook looking for one and a guy that goes down south to by beds has one rust free for $950. I will cut the flares off of my bed and cut the wheel opening of the ford to match the flares, and then, since the fenders on the bed are fiberglass, I’ll use panel bonding adhesive to attach them.

Thanks! Long term, I don’t know if I will keep those fenders, I will have to see how I like them. 67-72 chevy truck fenders are pretty much same shape as the j-10 stepside ones, so long term I might find a set of those to put on.

Couple small updates. The most important thing to note is that I actually remembered to take picturesImage This is a picture of the headliner I got installed. There’s one tear in it but oh wellImage. Other than that, I installed the other AC unit I got at the amc show in kenosha. It required a little bit of wiring to hook up the wires and stuff since the wires on the new ac unit were shorter than the ones on the one that were installed. So I got all that figured out and got that put in. Then I took the lights off my roll bar because they were old, covered in moss, and the wiring is atrocious.

Here’s the ac unit. Sadly (but unsurprisingly) I don’t have any intact vent pieces.

Well I was hanging out in the shop tinkering more today. As I was looking around looking for random things to do I saw a set of arm rests from my brothers second car, a brown 80’s amc eagle wagon (it was his engine donor for his current eagle). The car was a rust box, but it had decent interior and apparently he kept the armrests. They are the same as fsj ones, they just don’t have the plastic cladding and stuff around it.

Haven’t done much to my truck lately and when I say not much I mean none at all. Since my dad got a new project truck (a 2017 gmc sierra extended cab with the 6.5 foot bed) that was hit in the side, we’ve been working on that trying to get it ready for him. We bought it wrecked from a local salvage yard place that fixes and sells wrecked vehicles. We’ve been wrapping up the body work and today we got everything primed that needs to be primed (the passenger side rear door, front and rear door jam. We got a replacement front door because it was beyond repair). My dad let my put on a coat of primer to practice for when I need to prime and paint my truck. It was a little tricky at first but I got the hang of it and by the end I even had fewer runs than my dad.

Well now that Christmas break started for me I’ve been able to get back out to the shop now. Over the past couple days, me and my dad decided we would make some rust patches for my bed for now until we find a good bed. Luckily he has a large shear and break allowing me to make fairly large panels that look pretty good. Image
It took me about 3 hours for me to make this piece this morning. My dad did help a little bit but about 90% of it was me. I did all of the measuring and bending and most of the cutting. My dad only cut the final cut to line it up on the flare to make sure it was straight and correct. Overall I’m really happy with how it turned out.
