Has anyone replaced the water pump on their 71 or 72 with an AMC 360? If so, was it the short shaft or the later model water pump? Parts manual seems to show later model, but the AMC forums seem to think the later model started in 73.
Thanks
No recent personal experience, but I think the AMC guys are right. The pump for a '74/75 is an 8125131 which is different from the '62-73 book number of 8120130. The '62-73 book would be on the cusp of the transition that the AMC guys point to. Not surprising that it does not include the new pump intorduced for 1973, and the book is more correct than in error.
If I search for 8120130 online, I get some dead links from the AMC forum. Maybe I'm searching wrong. Here is an eBay post with what I remember the earlier pump looks like. https://www.ebay.com/itm/175552546098
The snout that supports the shaft is narrower and tapered. The later pump shown here - https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 08&jsn=404
Note the larger front bearing and added ribs.
