Fuel Tank Drop

Post by Tin Medic »

Going to be replacing the fuel tank coffin, is there anything I need to know? Also, I plan on replacing the following items, anything else:

Fuel Pickup Tube Filter
Sending Unit Lock Rings and O-Rings
Check Valve Grommets
89 GW 360/727/208 (soon to be LQ9/727/208) MSD 8523 Pro Billet Distributor, MSD 8207 Blaster SS Coil, 30x9.5x15 Destination M/Ts, Warn Lock Out Hubs

Jeeps don't break down, they're just extremely demanding when they need parts replaced!

I hear the area and frame can be loaded with rust..Check carefully once you get the tank out.....Treat areas as needed

Keep in mind that tank is heavy when you start lowering it down by yourself under the vehicle..

Gas alone weighs about 8 pounds per gallon....

Gas might shift inside the tank and cause you to loose control of lowering it down slowly...

Inside of tank might really be coated with crud...

Do not remove tank with gas inside garage where you have hot water heater with gas pilot light.

Might want to order some new gas tank filler hoses from BJ's Offroad, too. Yours probably haven't been replaced since, what, 1989? ;-)
