Rear Wiper Switch

Post by DarkKn1ght »

Does anyone know if our rear wiper/washer switches were shared with any other vehicles? I believe it's P/N 8956002651. The cutout for the switch is a pretty generic shape. Are there any other switches that could be made to work for the rear wiper/washer?

Are you in need of a rear wiper switch or are you just looking for an alternative to what you have?

XJs use the same ones, the earlier ones. I think 84-96 but don't quote me on the latter.

-B350 (HEI, iron 4-barrel, Edelbrock 1406), TH400, D20
-'74 D44 front (nonpower discs)
-custom headliner
-Front shoulder belts (rears eventually)

There are 2 major differences between new Wranglers and FSJs. FSJs are meant to be both utilitarian and capable, not just capable. FSJs are also rarely initially recognized as Jeeps by the average American.

My '87 XJ Cherokee had those same switches. I think my 87 YJ Wrangle may have had them too.

Josh! I was going to ask if you were able to rebuild this switch or not. I'm in the middle of the Durango wiper motor upgrade and the switch isn't working.

I should have around 5 or so of these in my inventory. I can check the schematics for you on the Durango swap to make sure nothing needs to be swapped for that on the switch. Have you checked your cutoff switch that is physically screwed to the tailgate window regulator? I will look over some things for you today and see if I can see something that may be an easy check. I was just wanting to make sure you were having an issue before I looked into it.

Are you saying the window lockout switch also locks out the rear wiper?

There is a separate switch that is screwed into the tailgate window regulator. I am attaching a couple of pictures of it. What it does is kill power to the wiper motor when the rear window is down to prevent damaging something. If it isn't working properly, then you will not have power going to the rear wiper.

I spoke to the shop owner (he specializes in auto electrical) and he said the main switch is fried and that I should try to buy both if I can because the previous owner wired everything wrong and burnt out the switch.

I will look through my inventory tonight or tomorrow morning and see if I still have any of the cutoff switches. I know I for sure have some cleaned up and fully bench tested dash mounted rear wiper switches. I will let you know what I have.

I looked through my inventory and I couldn't find a cutoff switch. I must have sold my last one recently. I do have a good dash mounted rear wiper switch though that has been fully tested. Just let me know.

I'll message you on Facebook but I'll definitely buy a switch.
