Steering box seal replacement

Post by 78 blu ox »

I need to replace both the input and output seals. I have seen the procedure of blowing out the output seal but don't want to run the risk of a mess in the driveway. Any other suggestions or tips to remove and replace both seals?

Hey, long time no see, hope all is well.

When I did the pitman arm seal on my '75 I used two ice picks that had 90 degree tips on the end. Its been quite some years, but I don't recall it being that tough to get the seals out. But expect it to still be messy as the remaining PS fluid is going to poor out, as you can't drain all of it while its in the vehicle.

Yes, It's been a while.
I will be replacing both seals and plan on removing the box to help ensure I don't damage the new seals when installing them.
