Starter relay replacement 82 Wagoneer

Post by Moparmikeo »

Starter solenoid/relay on the 82 Wagoneer died, ordered a direct replacement BUT....

Original has 12v lug, starter lug, 2 top post connectors- blue on 12v lug side, red on starter lug side, plus post(black wire) on the bottom.

Replacement has no post on the bottom...

Just leave black k wire disconnected? Attach to ground?

Wiring diagrams not clear on where black wire ends...

You have the wrong part.

The extra terminal on the bottom goes to the neutral safety switch. You can see this on the wiring diagram from the TSM.

Direct replacement is the Standard SS582 or equivalent https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 88&jsn=564

If you leave the wire disconnected, the Jeep will start in drive. The solenoid will ground through the bracket instead of the terminal. Up to you.
