A *Jeep* 208 will bolt in in place of the Jeep NP229. A GM/Dodge/Ford 208 will not. They need to be adapted/clocked.4x4Dad wrote:Bummer. I might just have to rebuild the 229. The tranny I have is leak free and works well so I don't want to swap it out.
I thought I'd read somewhere that 208s bolted in, but I was skeptical. I guess it's just some of them. Looks like I'll have to keep searching for now.
The NP242 is an awesome t-case. Unless you plan on offroad hard, or adding a lot of lift, the slip yoke will be fine.4x4Dad wrote:I think I'll start looking for a np242 as well. I know that has some issues, such as the need for a SYE kit, but I like the option of full time 4wd.
I swear to god, the NP208 I have from an '87 suburban is a driver drop, like my J20..Stuka wrote:A *Jeep* 208 will bolt in in place of the Jeep NP229. A GM/Dodge/Ford 208 will not. And I am wrong... I bought the whole drivetrain for my CJ7, axles and all, so it didn't really matter which side it dropped.. sorry for my ignorance! All the GM 208's are passenger drop. When they went to the 241 it switched to driver drop for the IFS trucks.Niedhogg wrote:I swear to god, the NP208 I have from an '87 suburban is a driver drop, like my J20..Stuka wrote:A *Jeep* 208 will bolt in in place of the Jeep NP229.
