Dragged another one home.

Post by UKJeeper »

Made an impulsive last minute bid on a local XJ ('98), fully expecting to be sniped. I wasn't. Picked it up today.

Looks like I got a good un. Runs fine, fluids all stay inside the places they're supposed to stay (slight misfire until warm to be addressed). Interior and exterior what you'd expect on a 15 year old Jeep, but generally good. Sills have a bit of surface rust, but not holed. Driver's door speakers not working, fixable. Exhaust will probably need to be changed if I keep it.

Cooling system caused a mild panic, so brown I thought it was a cracked block. But just really, REALLY, rusty. Have back flushed it, and the overflow bottle until it ran clear.

Otherwise, for the money, a good buy. Price? 540

Looks pretty nice for a small investment.

Is that a red TJ in the background?

That's my YJ. AKA the money pit recently. New Bestop, new Brakes, new front hubs, rebuilt (custom) front driveshaft, and renewed tags ate a chunk of my Jeep Fund.

Which is why i dialed back from my WJ plans, to get either a 4.7L with a propane conversion, or a 2.7L diesel from the early 2000 area.

I can either sell my current DD, a Volvo V40, or flip the XJ for more than i paid.

Ok, I was going by the shape of the door. TJ on the brain for me.

Thanks. Going to tear into it properly this weekend and see what needs to be fixed.

That's the YJ's natural colour! "Showing its roots" :D

XJ has been sold. Made a profit, and buyer paid me to drive it to him (and train fare home)

#WIN.

Money has been put back into jar marked "SJ Fund". :D

Nice XJ! I've always thought the Euro spec'd XJ's were neat.

CJ7/YJ/TJ all have the same shaped doors and will even interchange! Only difference is the striker pins. Back in HS one friend had a CJ7, the other a YJ and I had access to a TJ then we played musical doors.
