d20 vs np205 for 4bd1t/4bt

Post by nc wagoneer »

So I've decided I'm going to run a mildly built Isuzu 4bd1t in my j20 backed by an nv4500. I like the d20 because it doesn't hang below the frame but will it be fine behind the diesel with around 400 lb ft of tq? It will see alot of low range use towing stuff and also a little bit of offroad use. I know the np205 can handle it but I'm really not interested in having it hanging below the frame since I don't plan on lifting the truck.

if you really wanted too, I think you could clock the 205 up. I have one I was going to put on my truck but to clock it up Id have to modify the new exhaust and do something different with the fuel tank. I didn't feel like doing that but it looked like it would fit with the exhaust out of the way. I wound up going with a d300.

A D20 is going to require a special adapter to work behind an NV4500. NV4500's only came with round pattern NP cases behind them. PLus a D20 output would explode at the though of a diesel in front of it, unless you never hauled/towed.

If it was me, I would find an NV241HD and run that. Although the majority of them are driver drop. As all t-cases that were used behind the NV4500. I think 205's *may* have come behind early 4500's. And you can also get a clocking ring to adjust it.

I think I'm just gonna run an np205 with a clocking ring.

I think that is a good choice. It won't hang too low with a little clocking care. That's what I'm doing with my 4BD1-T but it's behind a 47RH.
