FSJ aftermarket wheels

Post by CherokeeCraig »

I'm thinking of putting 265/75/16 tires on my Cherokee. Anybody have any idea about the backspacing for the wheels?

Stock is 3 5/8 for most of the 15" wheels.

However, when you go to 16's most are 4" or greater.

If you have a WT, a 16x8 with 4" BS should work out fine. If you have an NT, your tires are going to rub the springs when turning for sure, and will be close in back.

Well I am WT so that's a plus. How much taller could I go (tire wise) with 4 inch lift. I'd really like to to have tall narrower tires but it all needs to fit in the wheel well right.

With 4" lift, you can probably go to 285/75/16 with 4" backspace on the wheel. The tight spot if there is one will be the inside of the rear fender wells.

Yeah, I would go 285's. They are roughly a 33x11 tire. Bit narrower than a 33x12.50, but also a bit taller (most are 33.1" tall advertised height).

Do note that most 285's are E rated tires. Good for tire durability, but they will have a stiffer ride.

Get 16" wheels made for a TWO WHEEL DRIVE '88 up Chev. That will give you the correct offset. The IFS 4x4 ones hit the tierods before you can even put the nuts on!

Ideally, what would be better on a wide track: 3.625" or 4.5" backspacing ? Is more better, or less?
