I've run BFG AT's on a couple of my vehicles and I've been happy with them except when it comes to heavy mud. Another good AT is the Wrangler AT/D2. I actually think the Wranglers are a bit better in the mud than the BFG's.

You know it's bad when your car is on the EPA's 10 most wanted list!
I'll never run BFG a/t's again. Here I am outside Angel Fire, NM, stuck. Can't go forward. Move back, I slide (literally) closer to the 3' deep trench. I didn't have any cable with me. These things caked up with mud faster than any other tire I've had, and didn't shed any of it.

We are very happy with ours and I think you will be too.
Pretty quiet, do great in the rain even towing and do well in sand and rock.
Can't speak for mud, we don't see much of that here.

Another vote for the Goodyear Duratracs. I've had a set on a '04 Ford Excursion diesel for 15K now and going to rotate them maybe today (285/75R16 load range E). Not much wear yet. Quiet on the road, too. I'd even recommend them for a "soccer mom." I've also had experience with the more mud terrain Cooper Discoverer STT and they're surprisingly quiet considering how aggressive the tread is.
If you're going to street drive with some trails and no NASTY mud and need good winter performance, go with the Duratracs. They have a lot of siping, too, which is good for wet roads.
My terrain changes with the weather. We just went from dry hard ground and rocks/gravel to mud and wet rocks (as well as the usual road hazrads) and that's just on my driveway!
