83GW glass work in a 85GW?

Post by rlrobinhood »

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a drivers side rear glass window from a forum member here. The piece of glass I need is the glass in the door that goes up and down (back drivers side door). My 85GW has electric windows and the piece of glass I'm looking at buying came from an 83 with electric windows. Is this a direct replacement? Here's a pic of the glass. Thanks in advance!

Yes, they are a direct replacement.

the older FSJ's had slightly thicker glass and I dunno the cutoff year, but I think it was in the '70's.

After my son accidentally put a baseball through the drivers side window on my '80 wag I bought one online from a salvage yard, the fit was perfect but it was tinted lighter than my other windows, it doesn't sound like a big deal but it stood out like a sore thumb and it was very distracting on the highway and at night.

I think the 80-83 electric windows used a metal channel at the bottom of the glass and is a straight cut like the 60s and 70s 4 doors. You should get pictures from the donor to be sure.
