np 205 behind a 727 in 83 waggy

Post by jeff r »

I doubt im the first to try this but i cant find anything so far. I may be crazy but i was wondering if i can put in a 205 from a dodge. I know they have the same spline count but wasn't sure if it was the same shaft and bolt pattern. I do realize its a passenger drop axle which is actually better for my cause since i want to go soa and i have a gm front axle i want to bolt in.

Some are Pass drop and some are driver's drop (after '90 I think) like Chevy did. The depth of the tcase input got deeper with Jeeps. Biggest issue with NP205 is the lousy low range ratio.

Find the right input gear and you are good to go. Might need a clocking ring to get it set right though.

The input splines to the NP205 aren't the same. Plus youll likely have to clock it to get the front drive shaft to clear the TF727 transmission pan and youll need to support the NP205 to prevent it breaking the mounting flange on the tranny.
